Be more proactive to the issue of insecurity- Nigerians tell Oyo gov.
By Bartholomew Madukwe---
Nigerians have called on the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, to be more proactive to the issue of insecurity and not always reactive all the time.
Governor Makinde on Monday, while reacting on the arrest of Iskilu Wakili, a Fulani warlord and notorious kidnaper disturbing the peace of the state, promised to protect the interest of his people.
The governor urged all law-abiding citizens of the state to stay calm and go about their legitimate businesses.
He said: “We are aware of the events regarding Iskilu Wakili at Kajola community in Ibarapa North Local Government Area, and the Nigeria police's handling of the matter.
“I want to assure you that we are taking all necessary steps to ensure that the interests of the good people of Oyo State are protected. I, therefore, urge all law-abiding citizens of the state to call 615 toll-free to report any security breaches in Oyo State.”
An Accountant, Taofik Adedeji, said “You need to be more proactive to this issue of insecurity and not always reactive all the time. These people’s aim is to render us dependent on them for food since they can use power of AK47 to scare, maim, kill, kidnap and rape our mothers to stop them from going to farms.”
Michael Ajayi, on his part, noted “The governor lackadaisical attitude towards security of Oyo state is under scrutiny and it seems he's no longer in control of CSO of the state and the Hausa Fulani will someday overrun entire Oyo state. Let's call a spade. The governor had lost battle over security!”
A Researcher, Oluwaseun Olaoye, pointed out that “Nature detests a vacuum. When you don’t act at an appropriate time, others may step in to save the situation and the remedy may be fatal. Let’s not allow history to repeat itself.”
Winsala Gbotemi, a Webmaster, maintained that “Seyi Makinde's attitude towards governance is the major non-causal cause of insecurity in Nigeria. This man is failing every day.”
A businessman, Oluwasegun Ogundiran, opined that “What is your role as chief security officer of the State? My question to you is that if Dr. Aborode is your son and most of Women's that were rapped are your wives or daughters, what are you going to do? I need answers to that. You are a pretender. Thanks.”
Dr. Franco Apiyanteide, a Public Health Physician, asserted that “Mr. Governor, I think it is time to spring to action. We want to see results. Not coming to tell us you are taking steps. We want results. We want peace. No more stories.”
Recall that the kidnapper's issue had generated controversy after he was arrested by men of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC).
It was gathered after Iskilu Wakili was arrested and brought before the police, men of the OPC that arrested the notorious kidnapper were also detained.
