Kaduna State governor, Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai, has signed into law a bill on rape, passed by the state lawmakers, saying that anyone that rapes a child below the age of 14 shall be surgically castrated and given the death sentence.

9jreporters gathered that the new law also says female adults convicted of raping a child will face bilateral salpingectomy (removal of fallopian tubes) and death.

In line with the new law, child rapists will be listed on a 'sex offenders' register to be published in the media.

It is on record that Kaduna State is the only state in Nigeria with such legal provisions on rape, with tough penalties for convicted rapists.

9jreporters further gathered that where the victim is under the age of 14, a medical report will be necessary to corroborate the allegations.
