British Council to launch Next Generation Nigeria Report 2020

By Bartholomew Madukwe

As part of a new strand focussing on Nigeria as an emerging economy, the British Council will on Thursday, 26 November 2020, launch the Next Generation Nigeria Report 2020.

                              Lucy Pearson

In a statement signed by the Country Director of British Council, Lucy Pearson, the report presents the findings from a year long programme of research that began in September 2019.

Pearson noted that the report has spanned a period of unprecedented global tumult in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent police brutality protests in Nigeria.

"Next Generation is a British Council research series that seeks to understand and give voice to young people, highlighting their concerns and aspirations, their influences, and views of their place in the world.

"This research contributes to providing a springboard for engagement with young people globally, and for systemic change in policy and practice," the Country Director said.

9jrepotters gathered that the first Next Generation Nigeria study in 2010 focussed on the demographic dividend; a population unable to find gainful employment and concluded “youth not oil” is Nigeria’s future.
